Birthday blues

Today is the first anniversary of my 21st birthday…or 22 if you rather.

Normally on my birthday I would spend Sunday at my mom’s house eating delicious roast dinner with all the fixings and of course cake and ice cream for dessert. Since I am across the pond this year, I am feeling a little sad about my missed birthday dinner at mom’s. We don’t usually do presents or anything, just dinner and family time with much talking, laughter, and usually some sort of singing or music playing. Instead of Sunday roast I had a traditional English breakfast this morning and Ben is going to bring me to the market to buy my pick of fresh flowers withYum-Yum Thai for dinner tonight– so it will be a good birthday, but it’s just not the same.

I guess this birthday is just different for me this year in many ways. Normally my birthday has a big build-up with something planned, usually by Ben, last year being our engagement. With all the hubbub of graduation, wedding and moving out here we sort of forgot about my birthday altogether this time. Also, being 22 is not exactly exciting. The big, fun milestones are over and now there’s only 30 to look forward to. (Excuse me if I don’t jump for joy). I guess I could get excited about 25 when I finally am allowed to rent a car, I mean, that is pretty sweet.

Anyways, enough rambling. Happy Birthday to me. I need a drink.

  1. We didn’t forget your birthday, but did forget to send a card… how long does mail from the states take anyway??? Sorry to hear about your birthday blues… and I have sad news that pretty much all birthdays after 21 are not that much fun :P Enjoy your day as much as possible and keep dreaming about that roast dinner – I’m sure you can convince Mom to make roast whenever you come to visit!

    • I have NO idea how long it takes. anyway, not necessary. it’s the thought that counts. :)
      Yeah, 22 = sucky

  2. Hey,

I was thinking of you, (note: I did NOT forget this year) but I was not near a computer because I was at dear old mother-in-law’s. I’m sorry that it was sort of a let down. I think any kind of special occasion is hard when you’re far from home with no dorky people like your family to to celebrate with. Love you

    • Haha, sure ya were. Yeah the bday wasn’t the best but I was even sadder that I actually missed everyone like I said I wouldn’t. (Loving your dorky family sucks. :) ) Love you too, ya big dork.

  3. Awww, Happy Birthday anyway…

And after the oh-so-exciting, rental-able birthday milestone of 25, I’ve actually been denying the number completely, and just ask for presents.

Here’s to starting new, alternative (only if absolutely necessary), fun birthday celebrations!
